Introducing a gold coin from the World's Wildlife series. The reverse depicts a ray leaping above the surface of the water. This is a characteristic behaviour of these animals. They can leap above the surface up to a height of 1.5 metres before plunging impetuously under the water. Above the ray are two seagulls, with a fragment of rock in the background. The obverse features the coat of arms of the Republic of Congo with the year of issue, the denomination, weight and metal proof.
These fish are found in tropical waters around the world and feed on plankton and smaller aquatic organisms.  Unfortunately they are endangered with extinction mainly due to overfishing and habitat loss.
