This gold coin is the third in Australia's Coat of Arms series from the Royal Australian Mint. The coin's reverse is a modern version of the coat of arms of Queensland form Australia. The project comes from Queen Elizabeth II's silver jubilee in 1977, when the deer and brolga were added. The brolga is the official bird of the state, here symbolizing the indigenous population. The obverse features a deer, which is not native to Australia, but alludes to Queensland history - Queen Victoria gifted a herd of deer from the royal hunting grounds to the colony. The image of Queen Elizabeth II does not take center stage this time, but is only incorporated into the background, which gives the coin a unique character.
The mintage of the gold coin is only 5,000 pieces.
