Reverse contains an officially licensed image of Smurf looking out from behind a wall, along with the official 65th anniversary logo and copyright signature of creator Peyo. Obverse depicts the Niue coat of arms with the denomination and year of issue, surrounded by Smurf mushroom-shaped houses.
The Smurfs first appeared in Johan and Peewit's "The Smurfs and the Magic Flute," published in the Belgian comic magazine Spirou by creator Peyo in 1958. In 1959, after gaining immense popularity, the Smurfs received their first publication in the form of the first adventure "Les Schtroumpfs Noirs." These popular blue creatures are known for living in mushroom-shaped houses in the Smurf Village located in the woods.
The coin's mintage is only 250 pieces.
