Spain 2 Euro 2020 - Mudejar Architecture of Aragon - COIN ROLL

This newest release of Banco de Espana commemorates the unique Mudéjar Architecture of Aragon. The region, located in the north-eastern of Spain with the capital city of Zaragoza, is famous for its aesthetic trend called Mudéjar. This style developed in medieval times, in the twelfth century, as a result of Islamic, Gothic and Roman influences. Its main characteristic feature is the richness of brick and wood ornaments, as well as the decorations with glazed tiles. The impressive example of Mudéjar Architecture is the Tower of Iglesia de San Salvador, depicted on the reverse of the 2 € coin. This monument was built in XIVth century, decorated with ceramic glaze. Its walls resemble the embroidered drapery. The Mudéjar Architecture of Aragon is represented by 10 buildings that have been included in the World Heritage Site list.
