The coin was issued on the occasion of the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2024. The coin's reverse features a stylised image of Brussels Town Hall, symbolising the Belgian capital as the heart of Europe. Surrounding the building are two flags: that of Belgium and that of the European Union, symbolising unity and cooperation between the Member States.
The central part of the reverse features the words ‘EU Presidency Belgium 2024’ and the Belgian coat of arms. Around the edge of the coin are 12 stars symbolising the Member States of the European Union. in English
