The Panthera Tigris is the third in the Laos Tiger series, which features a selected tiger species each year. The reverse features an image of a tiger in its natural habitat. The obverse depicts the Bank of the Lao P.D.R., located in Vientiane and being the central bank of Laos. Also included is the face value, proof and weight of the metal.
The tiger is one of the largest land predators, which despite its size (an adult male can weigh up to 300 kg) is excellent at jumping, swimming and running. Its most distinctive features include distinctive stripes and coloration depending on the subspecies. Tigers have been placed in the category of endangered species due to poaching, loss of habitat and climate change.
