Honey bee (Apis mellifera) is a common flying insect, known for its honey-producing capacity. Honey bees are stocky and covered with mustard-yellow hair. They are extremely important pollinators of flowers, fruits and vegetables. They transfer pollen between the male and female parts of the flower, allowing plants to produce seeds and fruit. Honey bees are social insects that live in large colonies. Each bee, depending on its status, fulfills tasks. The queen lays hundreds of eggs, while the main function of drones is to be ready to fertilize the queen. Worker bees in turn perform all the tasks needed to operate and maintain the hive. A large hive at its peak may have between 40,000 and 50,000 inhabitants!
