This is the 16th coin of the "Federal States" series. The series consists of 17 coins - one for each state and one coin representing the Bundesrat as the constitutional representation of the states. The aim of the series is to provide the public with a clear picture of the federal structure of Germany.
The coin features the Cathedral of St. Maurice and St. Catherine, a symbol of Magdeburg, the capital of Saxony-Anhalt. Building the cathedral took 300 years, starting in 1209, and the towers were not completed until 1520. Despite being repeatedly looted, Magdeburg Cathedral is rich in art, ranging from antiques to modern art.
The coin also features the name of the state (SACHSEN-ANHALT), the country of issue (D), the year of issue (2021), and the mintmark.
